Do you always need to put screws in my spine if I undergo spine surgery?

This is a question a lot of patients ask because none of us wants to have some foreign metal inside us. A chunk of spinal pathologies can be tackled without putting any implant inside the patient. Especially with endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques we can tackle your problem without disturbing the muscles and by resecting very small
amount of bone/ soft tissue so the need to stabilise your spine with an additional metal can be avoided.
But, there are some pathologies which require fusion otherwise your spine will become unstable and you will continue to have pain – in these scenarios where stability is compromised from the beginning due to the pathology itself or where we think an additional stability is required post decompression, for the best of
interest of the patient implantation is done.
